Teri-Ann first travelled to Haiti in August of 2010, 7 months after the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that affected an estimated 3 million people in Haiti. Although it couldn’t be called a “fun” trip, Teri-Ann fell in love with the people and the country of Haiti.

Teri-Ann returned to Canada and to school to study Therapeutic Recreation, specializing in mental health treatment and child/youth development so she could better serve the people of Haiti, and continued to travel to Haiti every summer, eventually staying 3 months at a time. Through these trips, Teri-Ann heard about Middle Ground, and connected with the work and the people serving here.

After completing her degree, becoming certified, and gaining experience in the field, Teri-Ann officially made the move to Haiti in October 2018 to serve with Middle Ground! Teri-Ann will be developing and running a Therapeutic Recreation program that will improve and maintain the development of the patients at Middle Ground, and train local staff to run these programs effectively, while also taking on the role of Volunteer Coordinator.

Teri-Ann is so excited to be a part of the amazing work happening at Middle Ground!
