What is The Peanut Butter & Jelly Club?
The Peanut Butter and Jelly Club is a group for kids ages 5-12 to come together to learn more about Haiti, the work that Middle Ground does through our programs, and how they can get involved in changing the world.
Why Join?
Foster A Passion For Helping Others:
We all want to raise thoughtful and grateful kids, and donating time, goods, or money to charities and non-profits is one way to encourage that. It's never too early to teach your children the value of empathy, volunteering, and charitable giving of their resources.
You are your child's best example, and as Mary Gordon, the founder of Roots of Empathy, reminds us, "Empathy is caught, not taught.” She goes on further to explain:
"Teaching children emotional literacy and developing their capacity to take the perspective of others are key steps towards collaboration and civility; they are indispensable steps towards preventing aggressive and bullying behaviors. As children develop empathy it seems to come ready-made with courage and imagination. Children understand marginalization and issues of social justice in a clear and uncluttered way."
Teaching kids about charitable giving and empathy is rewarding for the whole family. The Peanut Butter and Jelly Club is the perfect way to gently introduce your 5-12-year-old child to the work of Middle Ground, and invite them to join you in your passion for the children and families of Haiti. It's especially important to teach kids that they are part of a larger community and that everyone has the ability to help those around them. The Peanut Butter and Jelly Club aims to help kids understand the work of Middle Ground, share their passion with their peers, and give them tangible ways that they can use their unique talents and abilities to impact the lives of children in Haiti.
Stay Connected:
As a Peanut Butter and Jelly club member, your child will receive quarterly interactive newsletters with fun facts about Haiti, the story of a child in one of our programs, and unique ideas for ways they can get involved. Throughout the year we will also host several exclusive Zoom events, live from Haiti, just for club members to meet up and get a closer look at what happens day to day at Middle Ground.
