What Is Haitian Flag Day?
Flag Day is a Haitian holiday dedicated to celebrating the Revolution that gave the Haitian people freedom from France (which in turn set the precedent for slave uprisings in the United States years later). Flag day is celebrated every year on 18 May, which is the anniversary of the date that the flag was created, in 1803.

Haitian Heritage Month is an expansion of Haitian Flag Day, a major celebration both in Haiti and among diaspora. The month of May is filled with several important dates and holidays in Haiti, and Flag Day falls right in the middle of the month.

On this Flag Day, more than ever, we celebrate the unity and strength of the people of Haiti, and we recognize that there are many Haitians who are hurting deeply today, and we hold them close in our thoughts and prayers.
